There are moments in your career that remind you why you fell in love with this industry in the first place. For me, this is one of them.
I’m incredibly proud to share that I have successfully completed the Revlon Professional Colour Specialist – Master of Colour programme, achieving a Distinction.
Following our success at the British Hairdressing Business Awards, I felt ready for a new challenge. Not because I believed I’d reached the finish line, but because I believe the best professionals never stop learning.
The Master of Colour qualification is the highest level of colour education offered by Revlon Professional. It’s an intensive programme created for experienced colourists who want to understand hair colour at a level far beyond application techniques.
Over the course, we explored the science behind everything we do every day in the salon. From the chemistry of colour formulations and deep into the biology of the hair fibre to DNA, genetics, pigment distribution, the way hair behaves, and the countless factors that influence colour results. It challenged me to think differently, question what I already knew, and deepen my understanding of every decision made behind the chair.
The final assessment was every bit as demanding as the course itself. Across two intensive days of examinations, we were tested both practically and academically. The practical element involved complex colour correction work, requiring us to demonstrate not only technical skill but also the scientific knowledge and critical thinking behind every decision we made. We also delivered presentations to showcase our understanding, before facing what can only be described as a notoriously challenging written examination. It pushed every one of us to our limits, but passing with Distinction made every hour of study and every moment of self-doubt worthwhile.
I’m especially honoured to have been part of only the second cohort in the UK and only the third in the world to complete this programme alongside an incredibly talented group of colourists. Learning from one another, sharing experiences and pushing each other throughout the course made the journey even more rewarding.
This achievement isn’t about collecting another certificate. It’s about bringing an even greater level of knowledge, confidence and precision to every client who trusts me with their hair. Understanding the science allows us to create healthier hair, more predictable colour results and personalised solutions for every individual who sits in our chair.
At We Are Salon, we’ve always believed that education is never finished. It’s one of our core values, and it’s why we continually invest in learning so we can offer the very best experience and results for our clients.
I’ll officially graduate in October, and I can’t wait to celebrate with my fellow Masters of Colour.
A huge thank you to Revlon Professional, the educators Philip Meehan and Karen Thomas and Rio Agor-Watts who shared their expertise, and my wonderful salon team and clients whose support allows me to keep growing.
Here’s to always being curious, always learning, and always striving to be better.
