Small Changes. Big Impact.

At We Are Salon, we’ve always believed that what we do goes beyond great hair. It’s about people, community, and the responsibility we have to the world around us. That’s why partnering with the Green Salon Collective felt like a natural next step for us.

Sustainability in the hair industry hasn’t always been straightforward. From foils and colour waste to hair clippings and excess product, salons generate more waste than most people realise. For a long time, much of that has gone straight to landfill. We knew we wanted to change that.

What This Means in Practice

Through our partnership with the Green Salon Collective, we are now able to recover and repurpose up to 95% of our salon waste. That includes:

Hair clippings – used to create hair booms that help clean oil spills from oceans
Used foils, colour tubes, and metals – recycled and reprocessed
Excess colour – safely captured and kept out of waterways
Plastics – sorted and redirected away from landfill

It’s a smarter, more responsible way of working—without compromising on the creativity and quality our clients expect from us.

The £1 Green Fee

To make this possible, we’ve introduced a small £1 green fee to each appointment.

We know conversations around price matter, and transparency is important to us. This fee goes directly towards the specialist recycling and recovery processes that the Green Salon Collective provides. It allows us to operate more sustainably without cutting corners elsewhere.

In simple terms: it helps us do better.

Why It Matters to Us

Inclusivity and care sit at the heart of everything we do—whether that’s creating a welcoming space for every client who walks through our doors or giving back through our community work. Extending that mindset to the environment felt like an essential evolution.

We don’t claim to be perfect, but we are committed to progress. This partnership is one step (of many) towards reducing our impact and being more conscious in how we operate as a business.

Looking Ahead

This is just the beginning. As we continue to grow, we’re committed to finding new ways to improve—whether that’s through the products we use, the education we invest in, or the partnerships we build.

Because for us, being a modern salon isn’t just about how we make people look. It’s about how we make people feel—and the legacy we leave behind.

Double Netball Champions: A Huge Year for We Are Jades

Some seasons are good. Some are great.
And then there are seasons like this.

Headed up by Team Captain Hayley Mannings the We Are Jades double netball champions have had an incredible year, taking home not one but two league titles winning Thanet District Netball Summer League Division 3 and Canterbury & District Netball Winter League Division 2. Two competitions. Two wins. And now, a well-earned promotion into the top 1 & 2 divisions in both leagues this season.

Alongside the winners shield and trophies, the We Are Jades team and some individuals were awarded some special awards:

A Team That Just Works

What’s made this year so special isn’t just the results, it’s the team behind them.

The Jades are the perfect mix of determination, support, and genuine friendship. They play hard, they back each other, and (just as importantly) they enjoy it both on and off the court. That connection shows on the court whether it’s quick transitions, trust in those split-second passes, or just knowing someone will be exactly where they need them to be.

It’s the kind of chemistry you can’t fake, and it’s been a huge part of their success this season.

Promotion Secured… What’s Next?

With promotion into the top 2 divisions next season for the double netball champions, the challenge steps up but if this year is anything to go by, they’re more than ready for it.

Stronger competition, faster games, higher stakes. The Jades have risen to the challenge with extra training and intend to focus on getting the most out of the opportunity to play higher level netball. That being said; the team have decided to join yet another league- the Sandwich District Netball League. More netball: more learning opportunities, more time together and more fun! We have no doubt they’ll rise to it in true Jades style.

More Than Just a Team

At the heart of it, this isn’t just about winning leagues (although we’ll absolutely take that). It’s about what the Jades have built together: a team that supports each other, celebrates each other, and shows up week after week with the right energy.

To be acknowledged at this level is a genuine pinch-me moment for our entire team—and one we will never forget. Winning Salon of the Year, We Are Salon, Ramsgate was recognised for its powerful combination of technical excellence, inclusivity and community impact. Judges praised the team’s strong ethical values and commitment to giving back, describing the entry as inspiring and deeply rooted in morals the industry can be proud of. As an employed team, their culture of collaboration and support stood out, while their expertise across all hair types including advanced colour, cutting and textured hair techniques, with all team members trained in curly hair showcased impressive skill and dedication to truly inclusive hairdressing. Supporting Our Team from the Inside Out: Mental Wellness and Awareness at We Are Salon

At We Are Salon, we believe that a healthy, supported team is the foundation of a truly exceptional salon experience—not just for our clients, but for our staff too. That’s why we’re passionate about prioritising mental wellbeing, emotional resilience, and ongoing education that goes beyond hair.

Recently, we had the honour of welcoming Tina Hare, a certified IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) and Cognitive Hypnotherapy Practitioner, into the salon. Tina guided us through an empowering session on stress and anxiety management, offering practical techniques we can use daily—both in and out of the salon.

As salon professionals, we give so much of our energy to others—it’s vital that we also invest in ourselves. This session was a space for open reflection, shared learning, and emotional support. It was refreshing, empowering, and deeply appreciated by everyone involved. We left with a stronger sense of calm, clarity, and connection—not just to our own wellbeing, but to each other.

At We Are Salon, we want to do more than create beautiful hair—we want to cultivate a safe, informed, and nurturing environment for everyone who walks through our doors. Whether that’s a client seeking a moment of transformation, or a team member seeking support and understanding, we’re here to make space for it all.

Chloe – Salon Owner & Director Stylist

With over 18 years in the industry and a degree in Education and Training, Chloe is the visionary behind We Are Salon. As a specialist in blonde services and complex colour correction, she combines technical excellence with a deep commitment to inclusivity. Chloe leads the salon’s textured hair education and is passionate about empowering both clients and the next generation of stylists. Named Textured Hair Stylist of the Year, Chloe is a multi-award-winning industry leader who champions community outreach, education, and meaningful change in the salon sector.

When she’s not in the salon, Chloe lives life to the fullest. A keen netball player, coach and umpire, she also loves paddleboarding, hiking, mountaineering and mushroom and plant foraging. Whether travelling the world or exploring Europe with husband Col, dog Basil, and their beloved camper van Big Brenda, Chloe brings the same energy and curiosity to life as she does to her work. At her cosy home by the sea, she enjoys nurturing her rescue hens and her flourishing permaculture garden.

Lewis – Salon Manager & Creative Stylist

With a decade of experience in the industry, Lewis is a creative force at We Are Salon. Specialising in precision cutting, vivid colour work, and clipper techniques, his artistry and attention to detail make him a go-to for clients seeking bold, bespoke styles.

As Salon Manager, Lewis plays a vital leadership role—overseeing daily operations, mentoring the team, and fostering a supportive, forward-thinking environment. His commitment to continuous learning sees him regularly attending advanced training courses, where he refines his technical skills and remains at the cutting edge of hairdressing. His passion for the craft has earned him a strong reputation for originality and personalised client experiences.

Beyond the salon, Lewis draws inspiration from his spiritual path as a practicing Nichiren Buddhist, living with intention and using his platform to promote kindness, connection, and positive change. His love of art and body ink is reflected in his growing collection of tattoos—each one a unique piece by local artists that tells a story. At home, Lewis shares life with his two beloved dogs, Nellie and Freddie. Whether it’s a walk along the beach or exploring nature together, their peaceful, grounded lifestyle beautifully balances Lewis’s high-energy creative work in the salon.

Hayley – Senior Stylist

With over 21 years of experience, Hayley is a highly skilled stylist known for her expertise in classic styling, precision cutting and wedding hair. Her calm, reassuring presence and eye for detail make her a favourite among clients seeking polished, timeless looks—particularly for bridal and special occasions. Hayley works part-time to balance her thriving career with a full and vibrant family life. As a devoted mum to Freya and Oscar, she’s deeply involved in supporting her children’s passions, from rugby and football to competitive CrossFit. Her nurturing spirit extends into the salon, where she brings warmth, patience, and care to not only every appointment but her colleagues too. Hairdressing runs in the family—Hayley was inspired by her mother, also a hairdresser, and the two share a close bond that continues to shape Hayley’s love for the craft. This connection to her roots adds depth and meaning to her work, as she honours the legacy passed down to her.

Outside of the salon, Hayley and her family embrace the outdoor lifestyle. They join Chloe and Col for getaways in their campervan Sirius, where evenings are spent around the campfire, and days are filled with hiking, exploring, and creating memories. One standout adventure was climbing Snowdon—a proud achievement made even more special by Hayley overcoming her fear of heights. With her wealth of experience and kind, steady nature, Hayley continues to be a much-loved and valued member of the We Are Salon team.

Beatrice – Graduate Stylist

Beatrice, or Bea as she’s fondly known, is already making her mark at We Are Salon with her love of bold, vivid colours and creative cutting. As a Level 3 apprentice and fully qualified Level 2 stylist, she is steadily building a loyal client base who appreciate her flair, attention to detail, and vibrant personality. Bea is a passionate advocate for giving back. Having sadly lost her mum to breast cancer, she has channelled her grief into action—organising fundraisers for Breast Cancer Now, a charity that supports both research and families in their most difficult time. Her empathy and drive to help others are at the core of everything she does.

When she’s not in the salon, you’ll likely find 20 year old Bea crocheting and reading—often at the same time! A multitasker through and through, she brings this same energy and creativity to her work behind the chair. Now a proud holder of her driver’s licence, Bea has big dreams to explore the UK and plans to embark on a 6-month adventure across Asia—a journey fully supported by her salon family. One of three sisters, Bea embraces her feminine energy and proudly owns the title of “girly girl’s girl.” She’s the team’s ultimate hype woman, always ready with words of encouragement, a bright smile, and infectious positivity. Bea’s journey is only just beginning, and her warmth, resilience, and creativity make her a cherished part of the We Are team.

Rhiannon – Creative Stylist

Now in her fourth year of hairdressing and having recently achieved her Level 3 qualification, Rhiannon is quickly establishing herself as a rising star at We Are Salon. Known for her talent in balayage and contemporary colour work, she has developed a loyal following drawn to her soft, seamless finishes and artistic eye. Rhiannon is more than just a skilled stylist—she’s also the creative mind behind our social media, managing content, tracking trends, and ensuring our online presence reflects the quality and diversity of our work. Her keen visual style and natural flair for digital storytelling have helped grow our online community and showcase the salon’s creativity and playfulness to a wider audience. At just 22, Rhiannon demonstrates maturity well beyond her years, shaped in part by overcoming significant challenges during her childhood. Her focus, resilience and determination to excel in her career are an inspiration to the team.

Outside of work, Rhiannon and her partner Jake enjoy camping trips, family time, and are currently saving to buy their first home together. She’s also a lover of fantasy literature and is a proud cat mum, to Marvin and Gavin. With her drive, creativity and compassion, Rhiannon is an integral part of the We Are Salon family and a bright talent to watch.
